How to Make Travel Easier on Your Employees

There are many ways for employers to make a business trip easy on employees.

Traveling for work can sometimes feel like exactly that–work. But, that doesn’t mean your employees can’t enjoy their business trips.

Here are some things that you can do as a boss to make sure your employees (and you) are having enjoyable experiences while traveling for work:

Employee Health

Sometimes the hardest thing about traveling can be the jet lag people experience, especially if it’s for a business trip.

To help your employees deal with jet lag, try to stay away from booking red eye flights. Even though they’re cheaper, your employees may not perform at the best of their abilities if they’re tired. On top of that, consider booking an extra night for your employees so that they may rest before their first meeting or first day of work in that location.

International trips could make jet lag worse, but create other health risk.

Depending on where you are traveling, health measures may be necessary before the trip actually takes place. Both you and your employees may need information about vaccines or travel medicine. Every country creates different health needs and your business should be prepared before a foreign trip.

Take Away the Stress

There are many little details while traveling that can be stressful.

Make sure your employees have the easiest time possible in getting around. This applies to transportation and any simple tricks to make their lives easier. Consider getting on the road help (such as AAA) or TSA Pre-Checks so they don’t have to wait through long security lines.

Another thing you can do to help with stress is by giving your employee some flexible time off. Whether before or after their trip, a window of time can grant them some extra rest or relaxation.

Stopovers

Stopovers are usually considered a pain, but they don’t have to be just wasted time trapped in an airport for hours. Encourage your employees to make the most out of their stopovers.

If the stopover is more than six hours long, consider planning on giving your employee an extra day at their stopover location. This way they are less stressed, able to sleep in comfortable accommodations, and free to explore a different part of the world.

Bleisure

You may not have heard of it, but bleisure is a growing trend in travel.

Encourage your employees to embrace the act of combining work travel with leisure travel. This can be done during a trip if you intentionally carve out time where your employees can explore the city. You could encourage them to stay at their destination a day or two after their work is completed.

For example, if their work day ends on a Friday, encourage them to stay for the weekend.

Review your company’s travel guidelines and rules to make sure that they are supportive of bleisure travel.

As a company or boss, taking care of your employees while they’re jetting off for work can make them stay healthy, stress-free and feel appreciated.
